Friends, we are living in shaky and uncertain times. Crises such as war in Europe, the escalation of the climate crisis, inflation, and the rise of right-wing, conservative and nationalist politics across Europe, among many other major disasters, make us ask:
What possibilities or potentials could art have in this time? What would we like to do or could we do with art? How can we make space for emerging or nascent issues? But also for joy, community and hope?
UrbanApa’s aim from the beginning has been to question and challenge existing oppressive structures by creating space for diversity and multiplicity. And by arguing that topicality and joy, surface and depth, pleasure and subversion can and do coexist.
In November 2023, UrbanApa will return to the Ateneum Art Museum.
