UA Miniresidencies: Ira Wuolle, Angel Emmanuel & Jérémy Gaudibert

A sharing, a demo, a discussion, an outcome – Ira Wuolle’s, Jérémy Gaudibert’s and Angel Emmanuel’s residency period for UA Miniresidencies culminates in a public event in Virgiinia where the artists share some of their process and work. Free admission!

Ira Wuolle, Jérémy Gaudibert and Angel Emmanuel dedicate their residency to celebrating and exploring the art form of Punking. They want to explore the multidimensionality and history of the art form using fashion, music, movement, lipsynch and more.Punking is a queer BIPOC art form that is part of LA club history. But its worldwide evolution known as « Waacking » is for the majority danced by white and cis-people. It is the case particularly in Finland. Ira, Jérémy and Angel are going to sit with, observe and tackle this paradox.Ira, Jérémy and Angel want to emphasize that they are by no mean experts but are going to gather the knowledge they have accumulated in a document to be shared and to open further explorations.

When: 6 June 2024 at 18:00-21:00
Where: Virgiinia (Karjalankatu 2 A)
Language: English

Jérémy is a creative person that operates both in the design and dance field. Jérémy is one half of a design studio based between Finland and France and involved in the Finnish Ballroom scene as well as part of Punking / Whacking dance culture.

Ira is a dancer-choreographer whose practice is currently a chaotic but enjoyable mix of Breaking, Punking/Whacking and starting off my journey in ballroom culture. Besides dance Ira works with rap and spoken word with very DIY and feminist approaches to it.
